Code Adoption

Current Code
ASME A17.1-2016
Prior Code
ASME A17.1-2010 and earlier editions
State Amendments
Yes

Alaska adopts ASME A17.1-2016 with significant state amendments. Notably, Alaska does NOT adopt Section 1001.1 (Inspection and Test Periods) of ASME A17.1, instead setting its own inspection intervals. This means Alaska has custom inspection frequency requirements that differ from the standard ASME code.

Key Notes for Alaska

Alaska's key distinguishing feature is its non-adoption of ASME A17.1-2016 Section 1001.1 (Inspection and Test Periods), giving the state custom inspection frequency authority. Annual inspections are mandated statewide. Inspection reports must be completed within seven working days on department-provided forms with violation citations coded to specific ASME code sections and Alaska rules.
