Florida officially adopted ASME A17.1-2019 (effective December 31, 2023) along with ASME A17.3-2020 and ASME A18.1-2020. The 8th Edition Florida Building Code (effective January 30, 2024) incorporates these standards. Florida also requires emergency/standby power testing annually per ASME A17.1, Section 8.6 (retroactive for all units).

Testing & Inspection Schedule
Annual inspections per ASME A17.1-2019 requirements. Routine examinations and periodic safety tests performed by certified elevator technician or certified elevator inspector.
Category 1 periodic test per ASME A17.1-2019 covering no-load safety-device tests and routine maintenance verification. Performed by certified elevator technician or inspector.
Category 5 periodic test per ASME A17.1-2019 covering full-load/full-speed comprehensive safety test.
Additional Required Tests
Certificate of Operation posted visibly inside elevator car. Valid for one year. Renewed only after passing required inspections.
