Testing & Inspection Schedule

Routine Inspection
Annual (12 months)

Annual inspections per ASME A17.1-2019 requirements. Routine examinations and periodic safety tests performed by certified elevator technician or certified elevator inspector.

Category 1 Test
Annual (12 months)

Category 1 periodic test per ASME A17.1-2019 covering no-load safety-device tests and routine maintenance verification. Performed by certified elevator technician or inspector.

Category 5 Test
Every 5 years

Category 5 periodic test per ASME A17.1-2019 covering full-load/full-speed comprehensive safety test.

Additional Required Tests

Emergency/Standby Power functional test
Annual (12 months) — ASME A17.1-2019, Section 8.6 retroactive requirement for all elevator units provided with emergency/standby power. Annual testing mandatory.
Applies to: All elevators with emergency/standby power capability
Fire service functional test
Per ASME A17.1-2019 — Firefighter emergency operation verification per ASME A17.1-2019.
Applies to: Elevators with fire service capability
Certificate validity: 12 months
Certificate of Operation posted visibly inside elevator car. Valid for one year. Renewed only after passing required inspections.

05 ENFORCEMENT

Violations & Penalties

Deficiency notices, stop-work orders, stop-use orders for non-compliant units, civil penalties, and potential license suspension or revocation.

Operating Without Permit:

Unit ordered out of service; civil penalties and enforcement action by Bureau of Elevator Safety.

Failed Inspection:

Deficiency notice with correction timeline. Unit ordered out of service if deficiencies not corrected.
