Testing & Inspection Schedule

Routine Inspection
Annual (12 months)

All elevators must be inspected annually. Comprehensive inspection per ASME A17.1-2019 requirements. Certificate of operation renewable annually (every 3 years for religious buildings if sole conveyance).

Category 1 Test
Annual (12 months)

Category 1 periodic test per ASME A17.1-2019 covering no-load safety-device tests and routine maintenance verification.

Category 5 Test
Every 5 years

Category 5 periodic test per ASME A17.1-2019 covering full-load/full-speed comprehensive safety test.

Fire service functional test
Per ASME A17.1-2019 — Firefighter emergency operation verification per ASME A17.1-2019.
Applies to: Elevators with fire service capability
Fire Alarm Initiating Device (FAID) testing
