02 TESTING

Testing & Inspection Schedule

Routine Inspection
Annual (12 months) or every 2-3 years per county population

Inspection frequency varies by county population. Counties 100,000+ population: annual. Counties 50,000-99,999: every 2 years. Counties under 50,000: every 3 years. Comprehensive inspection per ASME A17.1-2019 requirements. Annual certification fee: $100 plus inspector fees.

Annual (12 months)

Category 1 periodic test per ASME A17.1-2019 covering no-load safety-device tests and routine maintenance verification.

Category 5 Test
Every 5 years

Category 5 periodic test per ASME A17.1-2019 covering full-load/full-speed comprehensive safety test. Load testing required every 6 years per Kansas requirements.

Licensing Requirements

Elevator Contractor

Installation, alteration, reconstruction of elevators and related equipment

Requirements: Must employ at least one licensed mechanic; 2-year term; $500 application fee; $1M general liability, $500K property damage, workers compensation insurance required

Elevator Mechanic

Maintenance, repair, and testing of elevators

Requirements: 4,000+ hours experience OR completion of NAEC CET program OR equivalent training; 2-year license term

Elevator Inspector

Conduct inspections per ASME A17.1-2019

Requirements: Certificate from approved program or pass state equivalency exam; 2-year license term

05 ENFORCEMENT

Unit ordered out of service; enforcement action and criminal penalties.

Failed Inspection:

Written notification with 30-day compliance period. Failure to correct results in out-of-service order.
