Michigan adopts ASME A17.1-2016 as the Michigan Elevator and Escalator Code 2016. The state permits licensed special inspectors for periodic inspections in addition to state inspectors. Certificate of Operation required for operation.

Testing & Inspection Schedule
All elevators must be inspected annually. Comprehensive inspection per ASME A17.1-2016 requirements. Certificate of Operation required for operation.
Category 1 periodic test per ASME A17.1-2016 covering basic examination of essential components.
Category 5 periodic test per ASME A17.1-2016 covering comprehensive evaluation of all safety systems.
Additional Required Tests
Certificate of Operation posted in car or on platform per state regulations.
