02 TESTING

Testing & Inspection Schedule

Routine Inspection
Annual (12 months)

All elevators must be inspected annually per ASME A17.1-2016 and A17.2 standards with QEI-1 requirements. Certified mechanics and authorized inspection agencies may conduct inspections.

Category 1 Test
Annual (12 months)

Category 1 periodic test per ASME A17.1-2016 and QEI-1 standard covering basic examination of essential components.

Category 5 Test
Every 5 years

Category 5 periodic test per ASME A17.1-2016 covering comprehensive evaluation.

Additional Required Tests

Fire service functional test
Per ASME A17.1-2016 — Firefighter emergency operation verification per ASME A17.1-2016.
Applies to: Elevators with fire service capability
Certificate validity: 12 months
Inspection certificate posted in car or on platform per state regulations.
03 LICENSING

Licensing Requirements

Certified Elevator Mechanic

Installation, maintenance, alteration, and repair of elevators

Requirements: Licensed through NRS 455C.110 and NAC 455C.460. All work must be performed or supervised by certified elevator mechanic.

Licensed Elevator Contractor

Construction, installation, alteration, or repair of elevators

Requirements: Must obtain permit before construction/installation/alteration. License issued after plan review and approval.

Authorized Inspection Agency (AIA)

Conduct periodic inspections and safety testing

Requirements: Certificate of accreditation required from Division. Certification expires 3 years. Insurance: $4,000,000 minimum. Cannot have common ownership with contractors or maintenance companies.

05 ENFORCEMENT

Violations & Penalties

Administrative fines up to $5,000 for unpermitted work. Penalty system based on multiple violations over time. Penalties enforceable by Mechanical Compliance Section.

Operating Without Permit:

Unit ordered out of service; administrative fine up to $5,000.

Failed Inspection:

Deficiency notice with correction timeline. Failure to correct results in out-of-service order.
